November 23rd, 2005 was a relatively calm day just before Thanksgiving. We at TruLine Truss were still in the middle of a hot building season with a packed four (4) week production lead time. We received a call from one of our customers with Lowe’s of Christiansburg, VA inquiring if we would be interested in getting involved with designing and supplying roof trusses for a special project being produced by ABC’s Extreme Makeover Home Edition in the Blacksburg, VA. area. If we agreed to get involved with this project, we had to deliver the roof trusses on December 6th (less than two weeks) which seemed impossible given our current lead time. 

   Once we received the blue prints on Nov. 28th, we realized that to pull this off, we would have to add an additional 8,000 bd. ft. of roof trusses to our immediate schedule with barely enough time to design, prepare, produce, and deliver the product by the following Tuesday (Dec. 6th). On Thursday, December 1st, we received the truss drawing appovals from Building Specialists of Roanoke just before noon. It only took a brief meeting with Plant and Delivery Managers to let them in on the project and lay out the work ahead. 

   One of the things most impressive was our entire company rallied to make this happen, from the President to the production personnel. We fabricated the entire project not only quickly, but with the same strong adherence to Quality Control standards we achieve on a daily basis. 

   By Monday at noon, the order began packaging for Delivery. It took 3 tandem trucks and 4 wide load escorts to deliver this package to Blacksburg, VA. We arrived at the project by 10 am Tuesday morning. 

   After being involved in something like this where everyone at the site, from skilled to unskilled labor, was donating their time, resources, and materials, one was easily overwhelmed with the approach and outlook everyone had during the construction of the project. It really restored one’s faith toward mankind as this was a very concerted effort on everyone’s behalf to pull off demolishing the old residence and building a 3,000 sq. ft. residence (furnished and landscaped) in just 7 days. The employees of TruLine Truss, Inc. were all proud to have been a part of this experience and will look forward to seeing this on ABC’s Extreme Makeover Home Edition some time late February or early March, 2006. Please select the link provided below for some snapshots taken from the project upon our arrival.
